Birsenaite Jewellery’s ethical promises

Jewellery is a way of expressing our creative identities, of marking our stories and experiences.

Like any industry, creating jewellery has an impact on the planet and its people. By considering Birsenaite’s footprint and approach, I am dedicated to leaving my mark in a positive way.

My commitment to environmental and social responsibility is reflected in three main areas: people, earth, and materials.

Social Impact

Supporting communities and causes matters to me. I want Birsenaite to create and amplify impact where it's needed most.

That's why I donate 5% of Birsenaite profits to the Crisis Pregnancy Centre, a non-governmental organisation established to help women experiencing crisis pregnancies and pregnancy-related issues. The centre provides support for women after miscarriages, premature childbirths, postpartum depression, and abortion.

I don’t believe my responsibility ends there. I’m currently exploring ways to expand my social impact strategies for the future, to create an opportunity to make a positive difference in the world.

Environmental Sustainability - Materials

From 2023, I’ve redoubled my efforts to prioritise sustainability, taking my commitment to the planet to the next level.

All Birsenaite jewellery is crafted from recycled 925 Sterling Silver. Every piece is thoughtfully designed and crafted using the highest quality materials, and set with natural gemstones and freshwater pearls. Each piece is for wearing and loving every day and for years to come.

Jewellery boxes In addition to recycled silver, I strive to minimise my environmental footprint in every aspect of my business. I use 100% recyclable paper for my custom-designed boxes and gift bags, with reusable vegan suede pouches inside to store and travel with your jewellery.

It’s impossible to avoid the use of soft plastics in importing and exporting some of our materials. But to further reduce the use of virgin plastics I have implemented a closed-loop system, and offer all of my wholesale customers the option to return soft plastics for recycling.

I call on artisans in Bangkok, Thailand to help create some of the components used in my designs. I strive to support small and sustainable businesses, choosing to partner only with independent, local workshops that share my ethical values. Final fabrication and finishing of all pieces happens here, in the Birsenaite studio.

Looking to the future

Sustainability is not just a buzzword for me, it's central to my way of life.

So in crafting my jewellery, I work closely with small-scale, environmentally-conscious goldsmith workshops in Bangkok, Thailand. I choose partners that share my vision and values.

Together, we strive to create high-quality jewellery that is both beautiful and socially and environmentally responsible. Working closely with my workshops, I constantly seek ways to improve the impact Birsenaite jewellery has on the world.

Sustainability is an ongoing journey, and it's one I'm committed to. Ours is a constant process of learning, adapting, and growing as a brand. Thank you for joining me on this path towards a more responsible and ethical future.
